Stephanie, Registered Psychologist
I am a HCPC Registered Psychologist working with adults aged 18 and over, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and an Accredited EMDR Practitioner.
I originally trained and qualified as a Forensic Psychologist, working within UK prisons where I delivered individual therapy, group programmes and psychological assessments. My time in forensic services taught me a great deal about human nature, resilience and the remarkable ways people adapt to survive adversity. It reinforced my belief that meaningful change begins with understanding rather than judgement. In 2013, I moved into private practice, bringing these experiences with me.
My specialist area is trauma, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex or developmental trauma. I also work with anxiety, including OCD, health anxiety, social anxiety, panic, generalised anxiety, travel anxiety and phobias, as well as depression, work-related stress, sleep difficulties and low self-esteem.
My approach is grounded in the understanding that our minds evolved to help us survive. Many of the thoughts, emotions and behaviours that cause distress today began as adaptive responses to earlier experiences or environments. Rather than seeing symptoms as something that is “wrong”, I see them as patterns that once served a purpose. Together, we explore how those patterns developed, whether they continue to serve you, and how you can move towards the life you want to live.
I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Rather than following a single model, I tailor therapy to your individual needs, strengths and goals.
To ensure I provide the highest standard of care, I engage in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development, keeping my practice informed by the latest research and developments in psychology.
